Uncovering the Next Generation's Hall of Fame
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee is made up of a group of music industry experts and insiders, including artists, executives, historians, and journalists. The exact membership of the committee can vary from year to year and is kept confidential by the Hall of Fame. The role of the Nominating Committee is to consider the eligible candidates for the Hall of Fame and to create the ballot of nominees for consideration by the voting body, which is a much larger group of over 1000 industry professionals and living Hall of Famers. The Nominating Committee's selections are based on a number of criteria, including the impact and influence of the artist on music history, as well as their popularity, longevity, and musical innovations.
Because the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame doesn't like to reveal the members of the Nominating Committee to protect its members from lobbying, journalists will often describe the group as "secretive" or "unnamed," even though the many of the members speak openly about their position and lists have been publicly available here for over a decade.
The Rock Hall has come under fire for its lack of women on the Nominating Committee. Historically, only 12% of its members have been women, but the current percentage is around 38% (as of 2024). The lack of female representation in the group that creates the ballot is highly correlated with the low percentage of women inducted into the Hall of Fame. Women members are highlighted in orange in the lists below.
Some of the more prominent artists on the Nominating Committee have joined since 2014, including Questlove, Tom Morello, Dave Grohl, Linda Perry, and Darryl McDaniels.
The Nominating Committee is led by Rick Krim, who took over from Jon Landau after he stepped down as chairman in 2022.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, based in New York, is responsible for running the nomination and induction process. The Rock Hall Museum in Cleveland has little influence over the Hall of Famers it displays.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Voting Committee (incomplete list)
The role of the Rock Hall's Voting Committee is to determine which of the nominees get inducted. After the ballot is announced, the Hall of Fame sends out 1000+ ballots to its voters for consideration. Voters are instructed to vote for up to five of the nominees, and no write-in candidates are permitted.
The Voting Committee consists of all living Hall of Famers, members of the Nominating Committee, and several hundred other music industry professionals (journalists, critics, radio personalities, producers, executives, etc.). While there is no official record of the Voting Committee's membership, the list below has been pieced together from publicly available information and represents roughly 2/3 of the group.
If you know of additional voters not listed below, please let us know.
