Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic are nominated for the 2014 Songwriters Hall of Fame. Their second nomination. It will be their second time nominated for the Song Hall and the Rock Hall in the same year if they get a Rock Hall nomination this year as well. They could also be joining this group:

I don't think Chic gets in for awhile. They have been rejected for induction like 8x now. That's a powerful statement by the Committee. I don't see how the 9th time will be any different. It's a shame because Chic had some good hits. Le Freak was a real classic. KING

The fact that Chic has been nominated 8x definitely says a lot. But, I think it's the voters that are making the powerful statement by continuously not inducting them.

Le Freak was real, but I say the Nom Com should relax and lay off of the nomination and give that coveted slot to another deserving artist/band. At least for a couple of years…...

I really enjoyed this year's induction ceremony, the only thing that was missing was Nile Rodgers. Chic belongs in the RRHOF. Collectively and individually the members of Chic accomplished much more than the average Disco band. Each founding member went on to have solo success with other relevant musicians after Disco died. I really hope that Nile, Bernard and Tony are finally recognized for their musical contributions that are still influential today, insert Nile winning a Grammy for his work with Daft Punk! ....just get on with it already !

The rules are: If you don't receive enough votes to be inducted, but you receive enough votes to be nominated again the following year, you will be. If this is the case for Chic, then they will also be nominated for the 2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, even though Nile Rodgers was inducted separately this year in the musical excellence category. Now he gets to vote for himself. Let's see what happens.

Kind of awkward for Nile Rodgers to be inducted by himself since the bulk of his HOF case is with Chic and now they've effectively inducted him as a sideman (he did a lot of producing and sideman work post-Chic), so does that mean that Chic's consideration has to be without him since they carved him out?

Hell, even Rodgers himself agrees with the above:

"It's sort of bittersweet," says Rodgers. "I'm quite flattered that they believed that I was worthy, but my band Chic didn't win. They plucked me out of the band and said, 'You're better than Chic.' That's wacky to me ... I am flattered and I think it's cool, but I feel like somebody put me in the lifeboat and told my family they can't get in."

It is ironic that Nile Rodgers was inducted under Award for Excellence due to working with other major artists and production in 2017 which does not make up snubbing himself and his fellow bandmates with Chic for the fifth straight time. We seen Smokey Robinson, Bruce Springsteen, Bill Haley, and Gene Vincent be inducted without their bandmates the same way in the past by the nominating committee.

Neckbeard we get it you are a white supremacist. Rock and roll is rooted in african american music like rhythm and blues and disco is a form of that ergo it fits induction into the hall. HARD RAWK is not the only type of music that is considered.

The R&RHOF are doing themselves a disservice by not inducting Chic after all these years. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards inadvertently became architects of the 80s with their songwriting and production prowess. They are massively influential (as stated endlessly by numerous others) and incredibly talented musicians in their own right as guitarists and bassists, and if you're a rock snob who thinks they're clever by pigeonholing them into 'disco', I advise you to listen to Savoir Faire, an instrumental where Nile Rodgers will shred your face off (with class, and numerous jazzy major 7th chords).
