Its okay to not like something and acknowledge talent at the same time. They will be inducted because they deserve it. They love their fans and are passionate about the music they make. They have the 2nd most Consecutive albums tied with Eminem and 2 behind the Beatles by 2018 they could have two more albums out that go Number 1. They have the most Consecutive Albums to debut at number 1. Posted by Greg on Wednesday, 10/16/2013 @ 11:29am |
Who ever said DMB isn't original is out of their mind. Everybody has their own tastes, and that's cool. Posted by James on Monday, 10/21/2013 @ 20:18pm |
Dave Matthews at half the prize of stones tickets Carey tickets and other huge bands sold more. Boring jam band boring jam band if u don't like his product but Neil young and Melloncamp were no near as commerivally financially, and influenced pop culture as Dave Matthews band. Pearl jam has three great records Dave Matthews has everyone. His first two albums went plantitim and is amazing, it debuted at number one. Since then every single album debuted at number one. He sold more tickets in 2000 from 2010 then anyone by millions. The populace or majority loves him. He is a first ballot hall of farmer and if green day is and nirvana to deny dmb is an out rage. He is the only artist that didn't sue napster. He has hits after hits and he is more successful than jimmy buffet, great full dead, phish, because he succeed with plantitim records. No matter what fans of the whole fame think his records are already in clevand most albums in a row to debut at one. One of those was busted stuff which was already realized. He has five singles he did not realize break free idea of you, can't stop, and two step never realized like a single. Taylor swift is huge Dave went bigger without the social media. Dave Matthews changed alternative rock and he tours for the people but he is in hall of fame for achievements and records he set already. A true singer songwriter is rare one who stood by his original band and by the way did I mention he has has over seven platitunum records. Come on green day, never came close to his sales and a jam band making is hard but he did so the 300 million he made on concerts by charging less is a record. One that should be respected. I'm not a fan of nirvania but they got in, why because Kurt died. What about Bradley knoll his albums revolutionized rock and regale but he died. His albums are better than any of nirvania's. Hall of fame is about achievements in a career, he deserves it and look at his numbers. He was the best show at Woodstock 30 every critic stated. He stays away from the media but don't put him in there he will be the richest front man not in the hall of fame. Listen don't but be objective, I'm objective I wish I could have been driven like him. I wasn't and he made an empire which makes pearl jam radio head to nothing. I like phish but they are not even close to the same. Dave is commerivally successful, extremely more popular than phish I apologize but the band is better, Dave is better, and he ticket sales and his studio sales proof that. Dave has had seven number one albums, meaning best in the world. What is the debate I like phish but they are more jam than Dave. Dave Matthews live CDs sold more than phish cd's. Live at Fenway, live at red rocks, and live at Luther college all went at least gold. Not one song phish has put has made a significant cultural difference. Dave has done that with at least one song from every CD. I like phish but not compareable not close, same as OAR, or other jam bands.q Posted by Phishvsdmb on Monday, 02/1/2016 @ 19:08pm |
There's religion and political views to argue. Posted by Vance on Friday, 04/15/2016 @ 21:20pm |
You can love or hate their sound but to say they're not talented, that's simply musical ignorance. These have to be the same people who think Nirvana's sound was so "groundbreaking" and "deep". Get real and go back to listening your made up grunge subgenre. You have to high on heroin to listen that depressing crap. Posted by Justin on Tuesday, 10/18/2016 @ 13:36pm |
Anyone who plays guitar would realize how difficult and different and amazing Dave's style is. If you don't play and don't like Dave , your comments are dead to me. Then you add on his ability to song write...oh yea and a ridiculous cast of musicians.....HOF!!! I laugh at the comments from '06 on this message board about them being a boring jam band. It's now '17 and they are still dominating! Love it! Posted by gurn on Saturday, 04/8/2017 @ 07:28am |
For those of you who think Dave is boring, or undeserving of something like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame let's take a few steps back. They have been touring non-stop for over 25 years. So let me ask you, what kind of bands do you think deserve it? Most bands these days can't last more than a few years before they fade away. 25 years and they still haven't faded, just have taken a break. What they do is pure magic. All the musicians in this band have talent beyond words can explain. Dave's lyrics are so deep and profound I can't listen to his songs with out getting goose bumps. This band puts more into what they do than most human beings put into any aspect of their life. Their live shows are pure magic. Their chemistry even more so. This is the stuff legends are made of. If that doesn't deserve the rock and roll hall of fame then I don't know what does. Those of you that think their music is boring, well you may just want to get your ears checked. Or maybe go to a live show, not really sure what your problem is. To do what they do is unheard of. To hate on this band is to hate on all of the most beautiful things in life. They more than deserve the honor pf being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. But, if you ignorant F***s out there prevent that from happening, no worries. They'll still be one of the most impressive, and impactful bands of human history. They don't need to be in the rock and roll hall of fame to prove that! Dave Matthews Band is THE most perfect band in every way. Far more beautiful, intricate and complicated music than bands like Springsteen, Elvis Costello, ABBA (gross) and other pop bands that have been inducted. Really, they are the band that took music to the next level, with their amazingly talented improvisational jams (something which few other bands are even capable of with their scripted, predictable, boring music.) Dave Matthew's Band is exciting and profound. Besides each of the band's musicians exceptional talent at their instruments, their musical ability together will transcend history. Yep, I really think it’s possible for these guys to be one of this year’s nominees for the ballot since they’re first release is now twenty-five years old. Posted by The Dude on Monday, 03/19/2018 @ 10:58am |
DMB’s Come Tomorrow is the number album on the Billboard 200. Lots of new records too. Posted by The Dude on Monday, 06/18/2018 @ 09:28am |

Leaving out Boyd Tinsley would be so wrong if the accusations are false. Even if they are true, it has nothing to do with the Hall of Fame. Posted by Roy on Monday, 06/18/2018 @ 12:28pm |
Does Griesar's early departure hurt his case for induction? Posted by Roy on Monday, 06/18/2018 @ 12:32pm |
The controversy with Boyd would be more likely to get the band itself passed over for nomination than to get him left out of the inductees if they were nominated. Posted by Shrek on Monday, 06/18/2018 @ 12:45pm |

Dave Matthews not in the Hall of Fame is like keeping T. Owens out of football hall of fame. They have 7 number one albums. They have made the most money touring. They are Grammy winners. They do everything right. Hate their music but you can’t deny millions adore them. It’s up to DMB fans to get them in, and new voting requirement, you can’t be a virgin to vote. Wow. Just took a stroll down memory lane by reading this entire page. There have been some passionate people on here over the years. At least I now know the DMB is bigger than Jesus, more talented than The Beatles and the new and improved Grateful Dead. Posted by remy10 on Tuesday, 10/15/2019 @ 19:44pm |

Even with their push on the official fan vote, I still don't think they'll be able to get in next year. I get that they have a devoted, large fan base that will always have their back but it won't be enough for entry. Soundgarden has been nominated x amount of years and I don't see them suddenly voting DMB in because of this. Posted by Timothy Pernell on Thursday, 10/31/2019 @ 11:33am |

I rarely say this here but that'll be the least rock and roll thing to happen. :) Posted by Timothy Pernell on Friday, 11/1/2019 @ 00:12am |
Wow, they actually did it. They got #1 in the fan poll. I'm not sure why, but they clearly had a devoted fan base. Maybe I'm just missing something, but when I think acts that most people want in, DMB does not even come close to being in my mind. But somehow, they managed to get to the top, so....wow. Good Job, Dave Matthews Band. Usually the top vote getter gets inducted so, maybe they'll get in this year. Not my choice, personally but hey, if that many people are willing to vote for them to get in, there probably is something about them that I'm just missing. Maybe I just need to listen to more of their songs. Posted by Nathan on Tuesday, 11/5/2019 @ 21:34pm |

Dave Matthews Band will be the first band with black members to win the Rock Hall's fan poll. Posted by Roy on Wednesday, 11/6/2019 @ 05:00am |
What about Thin Lizzy? Black lead singer true rockers look real stupid not to vote them in. On the fence on this one. Well liked by many. Songs all worthy hum??? Eventually but many before him more so. Posted by Donna on Thursday, 11/7/2019 @ 05:36am |
I hate seeing third rate acts like Dave Matthews make it to the hall of fame when there is such a backlog of iconic artists from the 1960s and 70s yet to be inducted. With only a handful of artists inducted every year, we have way too many older artists still waiting to get recognized, and they should certainly get priority over mediocre acts that achieved mainstream success pandering to the lowest common denominator. I really don't care if Dave Matthews goes on to sell as many albums as the Backstreet Boys. He has been panned by critics his entire career. Dave Matthews has great influences and is a fan of some phenomenal acts for sure, but he does not belong in the same sentence as them. And these Dave Matthews fans attacking others' tastes for not liking them is ridiculous. How many Dave Matthews fans listen to him on par with Captain Beefheart, Yes, Thin Lizzy, Cream, Gentle Giant, Soft Machine, Small Faces, or Can? Maybe they can take a moment to tell me I don't know anything about good music before they go listen to Hootie and The Blowfish 2.0. Posted by Evan on Sunday, 11/24/2019 @ 01:39am |
I must admit that I really do not know that much about the Dave Matthews Band. If they have been panned by critics for their entire career, then they must be in really good company with artists such as: former 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee- Rush and hopefully soon to be inducted- Duran Duran; two of the greatest acts of all time. Besides, the Dave Matthews Band represents a diversity candidate that I would think would be very appealing to the Rock Hall. Do I think that Thin Lizzy, Gentle Giant and Soft Machine had also deserved induction? Absolutely! What about Jethro Tull, Procol Harum, and King Crimson - absolutely, that goes without saying! Posted by Enigmaticus on Saturday, 12/7/2019 @ 15:29pm |
Why are they on the list of "almost made it" when they only just now got their first nomination? Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, 12/28/2019 @ 00:56am |
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I read about people criticizing DMB (funny how they all say they're not all that familiar with DMB). DMB is one of the most iconic bands of modern times sustaining greatness for their nearly 30 years; how many bands can say that? The biggest cause of their criticism is their instant popularity, huge success, and size of their fanbase. The so called "music experts" hate loving popular music and DMB was the most popular band in the mid-90s. It'd be great if they would just get over their bias and really listen to the music. Their music is so original; how many bands can flawlessly include a violin, saxophone, and other classical instruments into their music? The only reason they haven't inspired more music of the same time is because they're not easily emulated. It makes me lose all respect for the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. Posted by Adam Bradford on Thursday, 01/16/2020 @ 13:21pm |
There are a lot of comments about DMB with respect to whether they deserve to be in the Hall, and I won't necessarily get into that. But I think their case is interesting in that it relates pretty directly to the Hall's apparent US bias. Posted by Michael Sicinski on Sunday, 07/19/2020 @ 07:10am |
Carter Beaufort, Leroi Moore, Rashawn Ross, and Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthews Band were the first black artists to win the Rock Hall fan poll since its inception in 2013. But the Dave Matthews Band was not inducted. Posted by Roy on Saturday, 02/13/2021 @ 04:46am |
Why are they still on the snub list? Posted by Garrus on Tuesday, 11/9/2021 @ 22:59pm |
Yes! Yes! Yes! A no brainer! One of the most unique sounds in Rock music. I don't understand how they can get the most fan votes last year and be snubbed again. Shows how disconnected the Hall is. Posted by Carl Hardy on Tuesday, 05/10/2022 @ 08:42am |
I think the DMB hate is best understood if we consider that most of it comes from those who have primarily been exposed to their most popular radio hits -- Ants Marching, Satellite, Crash into Me, So Much to Say -- if that's what the haters have in their minds then I can understand the hate - those examples could be considered sorta cheesy/mainstream/vanilla. Posted by Brian on Friday, 07/29/2022 @ 03:04am |
Must say I'm not a fan of Dave Matthews Band but they have one of the best drummers in the business. If they ever get inducted, it will be a treat to hear Carter Beauford kill it in their performance. Posted by Henry on Sunday, 11/20/2022 @ 02:14am |
DMB should not have been inducted before Soundgarden, The White Stripes, The Smashing Pumpkins, and many other deserving contemporary rock candidates. Posted by chasingwildcat on Monday, 05/27/2024 @ 10:47am |
