I think LL Cool J should be in RRHOF. That mic is still smoking after Mama Said Knock You Out. He could sing a softer I Need Love too. His music shows influence being used by other artists and covers. Going Back To Cali was another big hit. Definitely influential and innovative Rap artist. He's still only in his 40's. He should be inducted next 3-5 years. KING

LL Cool J has a good chance for nomination again this year. He's 1 of the most respected rap acts if you look at 30 years of solid productivity, his acting, and all his talents. Still in his 40's and has the star magnetism the music legends have. LL Cool J is deserving of RRHOF. Had hit songs and influenced many future rappers. A King salute! Might be the best talent in any genre.KING

Yes he was a huge force in Hip-Hop's history til he got destroyed by Canibus so I say he deserves it.

It's a rarity, but in my spare time I'm currently writing my nomination predictions list for next year, like the others. For the rap category, I'm torn between Mr. Smith, Afrika Bambaataa, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. If there is going to be rap representation, one of those four will likely fit. I feel hip-hop's most important acts are now in, with the exception of those that are not eligible yet. All four rap acts that I named are all different, perhaps in subgenres. Its very likely L.L. will be on my list, come August.

It looks pretty bad LL Cool J is already getting the Kennedy Center Award before receiving induction to the Rock Hall. I bet he will be the next big priority for the Committee to consider in the Hip-Hop/Rap genre. He will receive his 4th nomination this year and, if given the recent history of just one Hip-Hop/Rap act on the ballot, he will probably receive induction this time around.

I'm surprised FRL didn't post this in their Twitter feed because this is some pretty important news especially considering LL Cool J is the first-ever Hip-Hop/Rap inductee to the Kennedy Center and yet he's still snubbed by the Rock Hall.

Oh wow, I didn't realize they already announced the Kennedy Center honorees (thought they did that at the end of August, for some reason...). But yeah, this is a big deal supposedly. To me, most of the important people in the rap/hiphop genre are already inducted into the HOF. There are a few before 1990 that still deserve the induction honors and yes I do think LL Cool J is one of them. If I'm not mistaken, he's probably the youngest to ever get the Kennedy Center Honor (49 years old!). Usually that award goes to real legends in their sixties and seventies.

You can also say the same about Gloria Estefan, who has yet to be even considered for the Hall. There's already a large 80s backlog, and you would think Clive Davis would help get her in, but then Whitney would have to be inducted before her, and so on, yada yada. Lionel Richie as well.

Truthfully, I don't know the honoring process for Kennedy Center. All I know is at least 5 big-time legends in movies, theatre, music and the arts are honored once a year around Christmas. I don't know what makes them enshrined, and who picks the honorees. I do know that they have a huge celebrity event dedicated to it, along with the POTUS and First Lady. I also do know that the honoree has to be living and being able to attend the ceremony. That's about it, what I know at least.

Saw this Rapmeister on a very hot day in Chicago at Lolla 2018. LL played on the 2nd Main Stage (called the Bud Light Stage) to a very large crowd.

Set started out with his DJ actually scratching out the beats & getting everyone fired up. Mr. J then rose up on some kind of elevator behind his DJ & started laying down the ill rhymes.

Basically played a greatest hits set. Had male & female backup dancers. He was fired up by the crowd size & reaction. I was 8th row center & it was pretty packed in there. I think he should be in the Hall. Pretty sure he will be one day.

LL Cool J and Chuck D of Public Enemies suck for trying to tear the GREATEST RAPPER OF ALLTIME(GOAT) - Tupac Amuru Shakur(2pac) down! That's why 2pac's fans ensured he was a first-ballot inductee(2017)...top 50 GOATS! LLCoolJ, Biggie, Nas, Snoop, PuffyGirly, JayZ,....need not apply! Eminem and Kendrick Lamar will be next! Dr. Dre doesn't qualify as an artist or producer bc he couldn't keep up w/PAC! Only 2 albums in 30 years??? Snoop and Dre were jealous of Pac, and JayZ, LLCoolJ, Biggie, and Puffgirl... was even more jealous! So he disappeared from you haters... but he is still the GOAT! Don't get it twisted... none of you could touch Tupac! LLCoolJ, go away and take Chuck D with you... He is not the police of the RRHoF... he's barely in there himself! Tupac was the first solo artist and that's the way it was planned... just like his disappearance from you HATERS!

I'm still surprised LL Cool J has not been inducted yet. He's 1 of the first rap superstars and has influenced many young rappers in the game. 5x nominated shows the RRHOF Committee believes he deserves Induction. He's also in the public eye and television with his acting career. I would presume he receives votes every year but the Classic Rock artists capture more votes. I think LL Cool J will be inducted next 5 years but Jay-Z, Eminem, Biggie, and others will be eligible. 2018-2019 cycle was LL Cool J' s best chance at induction. We have seen that multiple time nominees like Ben E. King, Chuck Willis, Gram Parsons etc have an induction window. When that time passes, other artists receive nomination and move ahead to induction. Could LL Cool J become another J. Geils Band or Chic shut out of Induction? It would be a shame. KING

Hey FRL Regulars,

How long it will be before LL Cool J is finally inducted into the Rock Hall and how many nominations it will take him before he receives an induction?.

Will he go in on his 6th try just like LaVern Baker, Jimmy Reed, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Ruth Brown and The Moonglows?.

Will he go in on his 7th try just like Lloyd Price, Gene Vincent, Del Shannon, King Curtis, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Patti Smith?.

Will he go in on his 8th try just like Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, Duane Eddy, Little Willie John, Gene Pitney, Black Sabbath and The Stooges?.

Or will he have to wait until 10 nominations just like Solomon Burke to finally get in?.

What do you think?.

LL Cool J has eight Billboard top 10 hits and he is famous enough. I would like to ask why he could not get enough votes and can only be inducted via side category. He has the star power. If he can not be voted in, I think many other hip-hop artists like Eric B & Rakim, ATCQ and many others can only be inducted via side doors.
