Their influence over already inducted hard rock and punk rock bands is undeniable.
They should be in!

The MC5 should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They started the protopunk sound/style, they were ahead of their time. The MC5 have influenced plenty of bands such as Motorhead, The Clash, The Ramones and The Damned just to name a few and they have had songs of theirs redone by other bands, the MC5 were also responsible for The Stooges getting signed.

I totally agree that MC5 deserves to be in the Rock Hall and they deserve another nomination (the last time that happened was back in 2003). They were one of the early innovators of punk rock that proved to be very influential. However, I think MC5 will be one of those bands/acts that will probably appear on ballot as nominees and have less likely a chance to become inductees. I'm thinking of other good bands that have been nominated like Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Almost like the phrase, "always the bridesmaid, never the bribe" can be applied to Rock Hall nominees who are nominated but not enough votes to get inducted. MC5, while very worthy, lack name recognition and perhaps their discography is too short for Rock Hall voters to get them another nomination.

I would probably say NO to MC5. A short peak and limited discography. Some of the songs sound noisy and they have The Stooges already inducted. Most music fans couldn't name 5 MC5 songs. I lean towards groups with longevity and strong music discography over time like Duran Duran, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Offspring etc. Also, I enjoy those groups with vocal harmony and solid instrumentation. EX: The Association, David Gates & Bread, Alice In Chains (Staley\Cantrell), The Bangles etc. Some of my FAV bands have already been inducted: Fleetwood Mac, U2, The Eagles, Nirvana. MC5 has been nominated a few times. They must have a good advocate(s) on the Committee. KING

The Rock Hall Punk Train

1996: The Velvet Underground
2002: The Ramones
2003: The Clash
2005: The Pretenders
2006: Blondie & The Sex Pistols
2010: The Stooges
2012: The Beastie Boys (early)
2014: Green Day

I’m still hoping MC5 is next on their list, followed by the New York Dolls.

So, Musical Excellence, huh? Let's see......Wayne Kramer is on Rolling Stone's own list of greatest guitarists. Sonic Smith was an amazing songwriter, guitarist and was one of the pioneers of "theater rock", Dennis "Machine Gun" Thompson is routinely praised for complex rhythms and jazz-like creativity, Mike Davis was a world-class bassist and Rob Tyner had one of the most unique voices in Rock and Roll. SO WHAT'S THE HOLD UP? INDUCT THEM ALREADY!

The NomComm's trying to get them in! Hopefully next year will be their year.

Unfortunately MC5's chances for the performer category are at all time low since they were eligible during the early/mid 90's & have been nominated past 5 times. Given the fact others including Kraftwerk, Judas Priest, LL Cool J & Chaka Khan had no choice but to take a backdoor route to get inducted, it can be the case for the Michigan act. That's not to say they don't deserve to be in as performers, it's just the larger body of voters seem to think others with more mainstream should be in through the category & thus is why MC5 aren't going to be that.

RIP Wayne Kramer MC5. The MC5 will probably earn a Special Award this Nomination cycle. It's a shame as many 1960's and 1970's musicians are starting to pass away. KING

Rest in Peace Wayne Kramer, 1948-2024. It would have been great had he lived to see his R&R HoF induction.

Everybody loves Dolly, but imagine the Five on the
outside looking in at her in the Rock Hall of Fame.
Icons- they should be in. RIP Wayne

Well looks like my statements about them getting backdoored came true! Then again, finally inducted after three decades of eligibility & six nominations.
