74 comments so far (post your own) I think Roxy Music was very influential. Many of the children of the 70's who lived over in England & the British Isles admired their work. U2,Duran Duran,Morrissey to name a few. Posted by KING on Tuesday, 01/28/2014 @ 23:39pm |
I agree on Roxy Music. Only recently have I begun to explore their work beyond the hits everyone knows. Brilliant stuff. As a longtime Duran Duran fan I have known that they were very influenced by Roxy, but listening to Roxy closely I can definitely hear the influence for myself. Brian eno definitely deserves induction (for Roxy, for his solo work, and as a producer), but I think that Roxy Music may be his best shot. They have shot up my list of biggest snubs. Thus far, I only own two studio albums by Roxy Music, "Country Life" and "Avalon;" both of which are brilliant albums. Roxy Music had a huge influence upon Duran Duran and Rush, believe it or not, and for that reason alone, they deserve induction. If for some inexplicable reason Duran Duran does not get on the nomination ballot, Roxy Music would be a great alternative. Posted by Enigmaticus on Sunday, 08/17/2014 @ 13:21pm |

My favorite Roxy Music album is unquestionably, "Avalon." I cannot think of a song on "Avalon" which I did not thoroughly enjoy. Posted by Enigmaticus on Wednesday, 09/24/2014 @ 09:26am |
If for some inconceivable reason their disciples' Duran Duran do not get the nod this year, I will fully support the induction of Roxy Music. Posted by Enigmaticus on Sunday, 10/5/2014 @ 14:42pm |
I was extremely shocked that neither Roxy Music, nor her younger sister, Duran Duran, were even nominated. Perhaps it's telling that brother Lou, brother Sting and their older cousin Kraftwerk and older sister, Cihic, are on the list though. Posted by Enigmaticus on Saturday, 10/11/2014 @ 13:43pm |
It's really hard for me to choose between Roxy Music, or Duran Duran as deserving induction. Although, I would probably choose Duran Duran, because I am more familiar with their catalogue. Posted by Enigmaticus on Saturday, 11/15/2014 @ 11:54am |
Starting to think Roxy Music could receive an induction this year. Eno & Ferry are respected in music community and they might be a good alternative choice to others. I think people are reviewing their collection and finding it quite brilliant. Their influence is a wide swath from Rush to U2 to Morrissey and Duran Duran. That's strong influence. Avalon is my FAV because I love Avalon and More Than This although the rest of album excellent too. KING Posted by KING on Tuesday, 06/2/2015 @ 04:08am |
The ultimate question is: which band would you personally choose: Duran Duran, or Roxy Music? Posted by Enigmaticus on Wednesday, 01/6/2016 @ 08:19am |
I choose both since I like both. They're both deserving for induction. Posted by Greg F on Wednesday, 01/6/2016 @ 17:47pm |
The fact that Roxy Music is not inducted calls the credibility of this list into question. It should not be possible to miss them, at least not if you know a little bit about music history. Posted by Hyphen on Tuesday, 06/7/2016 @ 11:39am |
Roxy might be THE most glaring omission from the RRHOF even though I understand they are not for every taste. I'll go one further; Brian Ferry should be in as a solo artist! Posted by Larry Bowers on Sunday, 07/31/2016 @ 19:21pm |
I think that what hurts Roxy Music's chances for induction is their lack of familiarity with many of the Rock Hall's voters. Overall, Duran Duran has been much more popular and they have had a major impact on a newer generation of musicians. Even though, 4 of Roxy Music's albums are among the greatest albums, "Avalon" is probably the only album that most Americans are familiar with. On the other hand, Duran Duran has several albums which were revered by the public: "Duran Duran (1981)," "Rio," "Duran Duran (1993) aka the Wedding album, " "Astronaut," "All You Need Is Now," "A Diamond In The Mind: Live 2011" and "Paper Gods." Duran Duran's latest hit singles: 'Pressure Off,' and 'What Are The Chances' have been very popular. I also think that "Seven And The Ragged Tiger" was popular in America, as well. I think that Kristen Studard, Joe Kwaczala and Roy Trakin have made several good points about Roxy Music’s worthiness for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Now, if you really want to see Roxy Music inducted, you will need to support the induction of Duran Duran into the Rock Hall. As many of you are very well aware, my primary objective over the past several years has been to see the “holy trinity” of prog (Rush, Yes and The Moody Blues) inducted, in addition to the inductions of: Duran Duran, Sade and Carly Simon. I am also a huge advocate for the induction of more prog acts, including: Procol Harum, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Supertramp, Kansas and of course, the aforementioned Duran Duran. I think that the case can be made for Doobie Brothers and Foreigner, also. Last year, I had voted for The Cars (who had been inducted), The Moody Blues (who had also been inducted), Nina Simone 50% of the time (who had also been inducted posthumously), The Zombies- the other 50% of the time (who had not been inducted), Eurythmics (who had not been inducted) and Kate Bush (who had not been inducted). By not placing any of the traditional “prog” artists on this ballot, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nominating Committee has alienated a huge group of voters. However, since non-traditional “prog” artists, such as: Roxy Music, The Zombies, Kraftwerk and Todd Rundgren are on this ballot, I have been inclined to vote for them. Who deserves to be inducted, in my honest opinion? In no particular order: Posted by Enigmaticus on Thursday, 11/15/2018 @ 07:47am |
This could happen! Don't put anything past the Rock Hall. Roxy Music gets inducted and Brian Eno gets a second induction the same year in the non-performers category. Stephen Stills was inducted twice in the same year, but both in the performers category. Posted by Roy on Thursday, 11/15/2018 @ 14:08pm |

Unlike Rush, Yes and The Moody Blues, i.e. the “holy trinity” of prog, Roxy Music has 4 albums in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 albums list. In other words, this is a band which the rock music critics are hugely interested in seeing inducted. As far as the general populace is concerned, they are not really that familiar with them. However, If I was to venture as to who will most likely vote for them, the list may look somewhat like this- the surviving members of: Rush, Yes, The Moody Blues, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Talking Heads, The Cars, Queen, Blondie, U2, R.E.M., The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Nile Rodgers, etc. Posted by Enigmaticus on Monday, 12/3/2018 @ 05:18am |

@ Enig, I am definitely also on board for Roxy Music being selected. The level of talent that they had, the quality of perfection of their recordings, and influence they created in the music world, is all highly impressive. Ferry, Eno, Manzanera, Jobson, Paul Thompson, were all great. I am hoping they get the votes and support since they have gotten this close with the nomination. Also, I've noticed you are a huge fan of prog, so I wanted to ask if you were familiar with the band Crack the Sky, who debuted their first album in 1975 and just released their 17th earlier this year. Strangely enough, they do not even have an artists page listed here. Rolling Stone has their debut album included in their Top 50 Prog albums list, and recently did an article on the band this year. Some notable songs are "Ice","She's a Dancer"."Hold On", "Nuclear Apathy","We Want Mine", "Mind Baby", to name a few. Thanks for listening, and the link to the RS article on the band is https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/crack-the-sky-the-strange-survival-story-of-the-best-u-s-prog-band-youve-never-heard-707669/ Posted by Will N. on Wednesday, 12/5/2018 @ 02:38am |

Among most American voters, Roxy Music is probably still a slightly unfamiliar name. Of course, the second season of Westworld had featured the song, ‘Do The Strand,’ from “For Your Pleasure.” ‘Love Is The Drug’ from “Siren” has been featured on Sirius X-M’s “First Wave” numerous times and of course both “Avalon” and “Country Life” (which I would argue are definitely Roxy Music’s best and most flawless recordings) have charted on the Billboard Chart. “Avalon” had even received platinum certification in the United States on December 2, 1992. Of course, compared to Duran Duran’s 12 million albums sold in the U.S. and the worldwide sales of albums by Rush, Yes and The Moody Blues, i.e. the “holy trinity” of prog, these numbers are quite paltry. However, with 4 albums picked by Rolling Stone Magazine as being among their top 500 with “Avalon” being ranked highest @ #307, critical acclaim and influence, I really cannot conceive of Roxy Music not receiving an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 5 days from now. Can you? Posted by Enigmaticus on Sunday, 12/9/2018 @ 11:25am |

As many of you are well aware, I have been a huge advocate for Roxy Music’s Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame for the past several months. I have also advocated for Roxy Music as a good alternative to Duran Duran for the past several years, as well. Of course, I have certainly appreciated the fact that the Rock Hall had actually chosen to listen to me and have selected two members of Duran Duran (Simon Le Bon and John Taylor), in order to induct them. I think that this helps to put Duran Duran into the spotlight and keeps the “prog” train moving forward. I thoroughly expect Duran Duran to receive a nomination later this year and an induction in 2020, alongside Jethro Tull and possibly Procol Harum. I am still somewhat perplexed why “Country Life” did not perform better. It should have become a hit record in the U.S. I can certainly understand how “Avalon” had become huge, in comparison but “Country Life” should have been the recording which had been broken through and had been accepted by American audiences. It should have been the album which had placed Roxy Music on the map in the U.S. Posted by Enigmaticus on Thursday, 05/2/2019 @ 03:54am |

This is the induction that some fans are not too crazy due to the fact they never got a lot of commercial acclaim during their primetime but they did get influenced by Duran Duran, Chic, U2, Talking Heads and others. They changed music by Cinema, Art & Fashion, Brian Eno is the most influential & biggest producer, engineer, and an innovator who worked with Number of artists including Talking Heads, Coldplay, Genesis, David Bowie, Robert Fripp, Lou Reed and others. Bryan Ferry became one of most dominant frontman/bandleaders, songwriters that put this group together. Phil Manzanera is one of the underrated but defining guitarists who also worked with Pink Floyd especially David Gilmour on their later albums such as A momentary lapse of Reason. So awesome that they're in. Posted by Navonte Robertson on Wednesday, 11/20/2019 @ 18:08pm |
