Objectively - no. I don't think so. Her solo career was too one-dimensional. She relied on her sex appeal in a way other female artists didn't. And she only did what was popular, she never would do anything that wasn't popular or groundbreaking. She cared too much about that stuff.

The other solo artists on the list were innovators, musicians, and for the most part, pushed envelopes and boundaries. Nicks didn't push envelopes, she played it safe. While she wrote her own melodies, her actual songs were arranged by others. It was Lindsey Buckingham, Petty, Iovine that made her music edgy. Her chords were simple. SO while talented writer, I don't think she merits a solo induction. There are other women, who while not as popular, I think were more dimensional than Nicks. If it were based on popularity and influence alone, she'd get in, but I think you guys overstate her influence musically. Her image is more tied to fashion than music.

I think, reading the comments, some of you are way too biased...btw. I think if you look at her career (solo) objectively, you'd see that while popular, her music just doesn't have the same impact as Clapton's, Lennon's, McCartney's, etc. Nicks is talented, but she's not even close to that tier. She relied on others a little too much to make her music what it was I think to be on a list with musicians like that.

Posted by Lane on Monday, 02/25/2013 @ 03:30am

Being a professionally trained musician who makes a great living of what i do, I can say the following of Nicks: She may not be the best composer, the best technique wise vocalist, the best poet... But as a package she is the real deal. She's got that honest, almost magical touch that reaches out to millions. She preserves true emotion in her art in that way that very few can achieve. She is everything and more. Get the woman in the RORHOF already. She belongs there.

I could not agree more Dach, Stevie definitely deserves to be inducted as a solo artist.

Please join this facebook petition for Stevie Nicks' induction in the RNRHOF as a solo artist (I am not the creator of the page, but would like to credit them whoever they are). Nearly 150000 people already joined, and soon enough the page will have more likes than the official RNRHOF facebook page itself. The queen of RNR deserves it.

Oh come on... the Queen of Rock and Roll, and only 11%? I know it's mainly due to the fact that she's already in with Fleetwood Mac, but considering just how successful she was outside of the band, especially considering Christine and Lindsey's solo stuff didn't do NEARLY as well outside of the band, not to mention how many artists site her as an influence, I think she's worth it. Both of my parents had a copy of her album when they moved in together. They didn't have that many overlapping copies of any albums, but there were two "Belladonna" albums up in the collection.

Stevie Nicks is the First Lady of Rock & Roll no questions asked and no pun intended. She totally belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Posted by Brian on Thursday, 09/25/2014 @ 20:13pm

Of course she deserves to be inducted. Yes she was already with Fleetwood Mac. However, standing alone in her solo career she has more than earned her way. She has ROCKED IT! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! INDUCTION is WELL DESERVED!

Will you people catch up with the rest of the world?!! This IS A LEGEND!!! Put her in the HOF as a Solo Artist.

Stevie is past due for her achievements, she has been a star in her own right for many a year.

Stevie nicks has not only been a strong force in Fleetwood Mac, but has also had a great long solo career. Also she has made music with other great artists such as Tom Petty, Kenny Logins, Don Henley, Walter Egan , she can keep up with the big boys and is long over due for her place in the rock hall of fame. she is truly a musical poet.

Posted by Denny on Thursday, 09/25/2014 @ 21:52pm

When you list Edge of Seventeen as her only essential song, I don't know what you are smoking. Clearly you have neglected Standback and Leather and Lace. Both of which were huge hits. Not to mention her full body of work in the 8 albums she has recorded to date which contain many gems that made the top 100. She has by far surpassed the criteria to be inducted as a solo artist in the rock and roll hall of fame.

Stevie Nicks has graced many lives across generations with not only many classical hits individually and with Fleetwood Mac, but with so many other independent artists. She has topped many charts and supported many social causes such as the Arizona Heart Institute and our valued military veterans. She is a rock and roll ballerina, a gypsy, a poet, and a life-long inspiration. She is a legend despite social recognition, but I feel confident that her formal induction is only a matter of time for such a timeless artist.

Stevie is an amazing singer, songwriter, and performer. Her songs have helped, inspired, and been loved by music lovers of all ages. She deserves the honor of being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a solo artist.

For the nay sayers. How did the individual Beattle members all get in. Do you think Ringo Starr had a solo career like Stevie's? Oh and while still a member of Fleetwood Mac? Go back and look at the inductees. Stevie solo still is better than so many. Clearly this woman should be in.

Posted by Jim on Tuesday, 12/16/2014 @ 22:34pm

I feel Stevie should have her place in the rock and roll hall of fame for several reasons:she's a singer/ songwriter , a successfull member and contributor to a work famous band called Fleetwoodmac, a successfull solo artist, artist and photographer, and has been able to do all this for almost 50 years without having to take her cloths off to sell her platinum albums and sold out concerts.

Posted by Christian frye on Friday, 12/19/2014 @ 18:24pm

Innovation, longevity, spirit, talent, songwriting, contribution to other artists and beauty and grace. She is most deserving to included in the Hall of Fame.

Are you kidding me. Does anyone seriously think that Fleetwood Mac would be what they are today without her? She is an icon and deserves to be in the hall of fame as a solo artist. Lets give the Goddess of rock and roll her due!

Saw her perform last weekend in St. Louis with Fleetwood Mac. (See my following post on Fleetwood Mac) Stevie still HAS it. She's still got her voice, her moves and her personality. And, as some would suspect, it was a bit weird. She kept rambling on her stories, some of which were interesting. I know she's had drug problems in the past, so that's pretty evident. She probably had work done on her face, but nonetheless she looked great!

Does she belong in the RRHOF as a solo artist? Absolutely. Unfortunately, we all know there are several female solo acts in her field that are waiting to get in.....

The fact that Stevie has not yet been inducted yet is a joke !

Posted by Diane Hogett on Tuesday, 03/31/2015 @ 22:33pm

I have seen many comments for why Stevie should not be in the HOF obviously written by people who have no real clue as to the extent of Stevie's solo career. Madonna and Pat Benatar, though very talented and iconic in their own right, are not even in the same league. Name 30 songs that they wrote to their own credit. Nope, you can't. Give the Queen her place in the Hall, she earned it!!! She is an icon, a world class songwriter, singer, performer, and humanitarian. Her solo work and career rivals many (male and female), and it is time to give her this honor. Otherwise, the HOF is the Hall of Shame.

Stevie Nicks has been a pioneer for strong women in rock. She continues to be relevant today. With out her, we may never have had the number of young ladies that currently grace the music scene today. Adam Levine (Maroon 5 and The Voice) claims she is the best female voice in rock. That not withstanding, Stevie's lyrics alone make her worthy for her place as a solo artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Stevie Nicks is the "only" artist "ever" to carry both a group and solo career simultaneously. Her catalog is huge filled with beautiful works in both Fleeetwood Mac and her own solo career. She is... The Queen Goddess of Rock~n~Roll. There is no other like her. I'm truly shocked she is not in the RnR Hall of Fame. Once in a million years a lady like her rises. 🌙✨🎩

Stevie Nicks should be the first woman in history voted into the hall of fame as a member of a group and as a solo artist.
Many male singers have been voted in this way.
Why not Stevie?
The fact that Ringo Starr was inducted this year and Stevie Nicks is not is laughable.
Joan Jett's solo career better than Steve Nicks' solo career? Another joke.
Joan Jett should never have been voted in ahead of Stevie Nicks. Nicks' solo career far surpasses her and many, many female artists who are in the hall of fame.
Her solo career is hall of fame worthy. It is time.

I'll go ahead and add another 2 cents on Stevie Nicks. Again, I feel she does deserve to get in as a solo artist. Her solo career was so-so, but it was her rock and roll spirit and presence that should get her in. I believe something more like a 'witchcraft' presence with a little gothic mixed in! Also, you gotta take a look at her influence. I mean, just look at the list on Wikipedia...too many to mention on here. I will include her when I do my predictions for the RRHOF Nominations next month.

Stevie Nicks will be Nominated & Inducted hopefully this year. With Fleetwood Mac (already Inducted) but her solo work impressive as well. I liked Stand Back and Stop Dragging My Heart Around with Tom Petty. Her longevity and dedication to music has been inspiring to many musicians especially women. It would be interesting to see a woman as a 2x inductee. There are several men inducted twice like Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart etc. I think Stevie Nicks is deserving for sure of a solo induction.

1 "essential album"????? She has written, performed, and sold millions of of her 10 Gold or Platnium records... She is a prolific writer, she's had years of successful solo concert tours, and she is loved by millions of fans as far more than "just a sexy face". Then there is her influence on other performers, her many performances and recordings as a duet or guest of other bands, and then there is all of her humanitarian work on top of all else she has done...

Posted by Frank Abney on Saturday, 12/17/2016 @ 21:06pm

Stevie Nicks is already in as a member of Fleetwwod Mack and that is quite enough. A solo induction in her case should not happen. Which is not taking anything away from her, but a second induction? no way.

"Stevie Nicks is the "only" artist "ever" to carry both a group and solo career simultaneously."

Posted by Kim Koontz on Thursday, 04.2.15 @ 01:53am

Bullshit. Frankie Valli did it in the '60s. The members of the Who were releasing solo projects while still working as a group. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples, too. You could argue that John Lennon, George Harrison, and Brian Wilson did it as well, though I wouldn't.

Posted by Philip on Wednesday, 09/27/2017 @ 16:48pm

Phil Collins might be the ultimate example here since he was releasing solo albums while Genesis was active and his solo albums actually made the band more popular, which is a definite rarity. Or maybe Wu-Tang Clan's solo artists' records, same deal.

"Stevie Nicks is the "only" artist "ever" to carry both a group and solo career simultaneously

I like Stevie however Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues is doing exactly this at the present time!
The MB just finished a summer tour a few weeks ago for the 50th anniversary of the landmark lp "Days of future passed" Just this week he started a UK and New Zealand tour solo for
the "Winds of heaven"( a beautiful new song he wrote for an upcoming movie). He has been doing this for several years now and all are sold out!

The Moody Blues have been snubbed for almost 30 years and have NEVER been nominated once!

I like Stevie but John Lodge of the Moody Blues is doing exactly this at the present time!

He just finished a summer tour for the 50th anniversary of the landmark lp "Days of future passed". In a few weeks he is going to do a US tour for his solo lp "10,000 light years ago". This is the second year he has done this and the lp is fantastic! Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas worked on a song called "Simply Magic" on the lp.

In early 2018 the Moodies are doing sold out dates in Vegas and another sold out Moody Blues Cruise.

The Moody Blues have been snubbed for almost 30 years and have Never been nominated once.

Sue,

Now that The Moody Blues have finally been inducted, I think that Stevie does stand a good chance of being nominated for her solo work.

Today is the 70th birthday of Stephanie Lynn Nicks.

I would like to extend best wishes for a very Happy Birthday to Stevie Nicks and thank her for over 43 years of great and inspiring music, as both a member of Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist! Cheers!

If Stevie is gonna get a second induction next year, then I could see her under the “Musical Excellence” category.

Posted by The Dude on Saturday, 05/26/2018 @ 15:06pm

Oh please no. I hope that they won’t abuse that category again for a backdoor induction. One Ringo Starr is enough. Stevie Nicks’ main contribution to rock n roll is as a performer, with Fleetwood Mac and solo. She’s already inducted for the first. Let her solo contributions be judged the same way as any other performer and put her on the ballot.

Posted by The_Claw on Saturday, 05/26/2018 @ 15:26pm

@ The Claw

Whether if gets in on either of those categories, I still see it as a real induction unlike the singles.

Posted by The Dude on Saturday, 05/26/2018 @ 15:46pm

I’m glad for you, but to most people it will appear as if the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame didn’t have the courage to ask the Voting Committee to judge her, and give her a second-rate backdoor induction out of nepotism. Because that is how most people regard the induction of Ringo Starr. If you want to honor Stevie Nicks, give her the greatest honor that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has: put her on the ballot and let her be inducted as a performer.

Posted by The_Claw on Saturday, 05/26/2018 @ 16:07pm

Let's be honest here. Stevie Nicks nomination as a Solo artist on the ballot and she will be a 2× Inductee. Fleetwood Mac members, The Heartbreakers, The Eagles, and several others will vote for her. She's a legend. I know some have wondered about Stevie's exact Innovation in her Solo Career. Her Influence though carries the day. Look how quick Joan Baez was inducted when she was finally placed on the ballot. KING

Posted by KING on Tuesday, 09/11/2018 @ 07:19am

Stevie Nicks is without question, one of my favorite songwriters and performers. I have enjoyed most of her songs and happen to own most of her solo work. So, it’s very nice to see a Rock Hall nomination for her this year. There is also the apparent possibility of Stevie Nicks becoming a two time inductee. In my honest opinion, she happens to deserve this for her work inside and outside of Fleetwood Mac. Being a native Arizonan, I think that one feels compelled to appreciate her work because she represents our glorious state.

Now does she fare against my other favorite songwriters? Although I like Stevie Nicks quite a bit, I happen to prefer Carly Simon and Sade slightly more.

Posted by Enigmaticus on Friday, 10/12/2018 @ 14:39pm

I think her spat with Lindsey Buckingham had something to do with her nomination this year. Women's movement! #metoo

I hope she performs Edge of Seventeen and Stand Back at the ceremony.

I can't think who would be the right person to present her. Maybe Sheryl Crow?

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 10/13/2018 @ 14:15pm

Sheryl Crow was the presenter for Fleetwood Mac in 1998.

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 10/13/2018 @ 14:18pm

Roy,

Yes, Cheryl Crow would be an outstanding inductor for Stevie Nicks, in my honest opinion.

Well, what do you think?

Posted by Enigmaticus on Saturday, 10/13/2018 @ 22:37pm

@Roy,

I didn't think of it but you may have a point about the Lindsey Buckingham controversy. Those two have had an up and down relationship, that includes domestic abuse and public spats (mainly Lindsey's at Stevie).

But is it possible if, somehow, Stevie actually gets snubbed this year that the Lindsey controversy will have something to do with it? I remember Phil Spector was blamed for why it took so long for the Ronettes to get in the Hall (the year he was first tried for Lana Clarkson's murder, the Ronettes finally got inducted).

I mean we've seen these things happen.

If she does get in, I do see Sheryl inducting her.

Someone mentioned that Stevie was either the First Lady of Rock and Roll or Queen of Rock and Roll.

I'm sorry, I love me some Stephanie Lynn Nicks, especially for all she's done for Fleetwood Mac and for inspiring many female (and some male; hey Harry Styles) rock and pop acts but calling her rock's queen (though she is a queen, just not THE queen lol) does a disservice to these ladies:

Wanda Jackson (Queen of Rockabilly)
Tina Turner (Queen of Rock and Roll)
Janis Joplin (Queen of Rock or Queen of Blues Rock)

They were there first. Stevie has a great track record, but "The Queen of Rock and Roll"? Nah lol she's one of the greatest though.

Posted by Timothy Pernell on Wednesday, 11/7/2018 @ 00:01am

I'll be honest here, I really hope you guys are wrong about Stevie getting inducted this year, I really hope she gets passed over simply because I frankly don't feel her solo career is that noteworthy for a second induction (she's already in with Fleetwood Mac), so I really think that Stevie will be passed over this year as a solo artist just like Sting was back in 2015, because I simply don't feel that her solo career warrants a solo induction, plus I just can't see the Hall putting two women in in the Performers category in the same year and Janet Jackson clearly has more momentum and support right now than Stevie, and I would also rather see Carole King and Tina Turner become members of the Clyde McPhatter Club and become 2X time inductees more so than Stevie as well, so I really think that out of the top six acts on the fan ballot this year (Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, Todd Rundgren, The Cure, The Zombies and Janet Jackson), I really think that Stevie will be the one left behind and she'll be left out in the cold this year.

Posted by richie on Wednesday, 11/7/2018 @ 00:29am

The honor of being the first female to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should go to Carole King or Tina Turner, not Stevie Nicks. Maybe Stevie Nicks' induction is preparation for Carole King and Tina Turner?

Posted by Roy on Sunday, 11/11/2018 @ 09:23am

Stevie Nicks turned down These Dreams by Bernie Taupin and Martin Page, which ended up being a # 1 hit for Heart. Maybe Bernie Taupin and Stevie Nicks will both be inducted in 2019.

Posted by Roy on Sunday, 11/11/2018 @ 09:25am

Not only was it her spat with Lindsey Buckingham that had something to do with her nomination this year, but maybe also the death of Tom Petty as well. Women's movement! #metoo

I can hear Stevie Nicks singing Belinda Carlisle songs in the 80s: Mad About You, Heaven Is A Place On Earth, I Get Weak, Circle In The Sand, Leave A Light On For Me, and I can hear Belinda Carlisle singing Stevie Nicks songs in the 80s: Edge Of Seventeen, Stand Back, I Can't Wait, Talk To Me, Rooms On Fire.

Fleetwood Mac could have performed Our Lips Are Sealed, and The Go-Go's could have performed Gypsy.

WORST ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE ACCORDING TO BILL WYMAN

240. Stevie Nicks (2019)

Fleetwood Mac was inducted way back in 1998, so Nicks was already in the hall, which she deserved to be. Her solo career, which is what this induction is supposed to honor, includes not much else beyond one-and-a-half glossy hits ("Edge of Seventeen" and "Stand Back") and a dulcet duet with Don Henley. You can even throw in the pre–Fleetwood Mac Buckingham Nicksalbum, which I still have on LP (it was never released on CD), to which she contributes a few markedly awesome songs, like "Long Distance Winner." But there's nothing remotely in Nicks's solo career that warrants induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. Nicks has always been close to hall insider Jimmy Iovine, which undoubtedly helped her become the first female two-time inductee, even though at the time there were several other female artists in the hall who had had much more consequential and venturesome solo careers than Nicks, most notably Tina Turner (who is finally being inducted as a solo act in 2022) and Diana Ross. I had originally had Nicks' position higher in the list, but upon consideration it seems pretty objectively obvious to me that her oeuvre (again, her non–Fleetwood Mac solo work only) is the most inconsequential of all the acts thus far inducted.

Although I still do not think Stevie Nicks does not merit for induction from the music perspective, her solo career seems to have increasing legacy and she seems to be more and more iconic apart from the career of Fleetwood Max. I still think she is marginal worthy at best。

It is crime that Stevie is the first double time female inductee. This honor should be given to Tina Turner, Carole King or Diana Ross.
