There are a few corrections that need to be made to Roy's post above. Neither Colin Blunstone or Chris White were members of Argent, though Chris White did write "Hold Your Head Up". Russ Ballard was the lead singer and guitarist. The bass player was Jim Rodford (who also spent 18 years with The Kinks). Jim is also a current member of The Zombies, who reunited in 2001 and are still going strong! Posted by Tom on Tuesday, 07/2/2013 @ 06:26am |
The omission of The Zombies is yet another example of how rock critics have a subtle bias against bands with the strongest musicianship. I think this is because the critics are mostly frustrated musicians, and thus can praise punk bands without being threatened by them. Songs like The Zombies' She's Not There and Harem's Whiter Shade of Pale, for example, incorporate jazz piano and classical organ in a very creative, sophisticated way. These bands have strongly influenced those who followed them. Even Santana has covered Zombies' tunes! Most of all, though, this music still sounds fresh almost a half-century after it was recorded. I just read the blog post by Argent on the Rockhall site and it sounded like he gave the RRHOF its full blessing. Even though several non-inducted bands/artists have performed and toured the place, I think its time for Jann to wake up and not be a zombie and induct a Zombie! Do you think the Zombies will be passed over the way The Marvelettes were? Posted by Roy on Wednesday, 10/23/2013 @ 14:33pm |
also Tahvo, u totally messed up my formula, critical can't get more than 20! Posted by GFW on Thursday, 02/13/2014 @ 16:35pm |
Well, Zombies lovers, your group is still among the living dead, a.k.a. greatest "snubbed" groups. But I do believe they should someday be enshrined in that pyramidal reliquary called the Rock Hall. The Zombies were, afterall a singular fine specimen of the British invasion. Posted by Telarock on Thursday, 11/13/2014 @ 19:08pm |
zombies not in ? cant' believe it ! guess the powers that be never listened to them. awesome defines them best. it's like saying vietnam never happened or drive in theaters didn't exist..... Posted by jack on Friday, 04/17/2015 @ 07:23am |
The Zombies should have been inducted long ago. They are producing incredibly high quality music to this day. I call it "the thinking man's rock and roll". Well written and produced with amazing attention to detail. No other group, then or now, sounds like The Zombies. Posted by Dale on Sunday, 12/20/2015 @ 08:31am |
I had voted for The Zombies this year, in addition to Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Steppenwolf and Joan Baez. I wonder if Duran Duran had been influenced by The Zombies? Posted by Enigmaticus on Friday, 10/21/2016 @ 18:44pm |
If The Zombies get in this year it would mark the third time a vocalist for The Alan Parsons Project was inducted into the RRHOF. Colin Blunstone sang on four APP songs: "The Eagle Will Rise Again" from Pyramid, "Old And Wise" from Eye In The Sky, "Dancing On A Highwire" from Ammonia Avenue and "Somebody Out There" from Vulture Culture. (The two APP vocalists currently in the RRHOF are Allan Clarke and Terry Sylvester who were inducted with the Hollies) Also Santana had a famous cover version of "She's Not There" in late 1977. Public service announcement: if you wanna binge on the Zombies, do not use Spotify. 50% of what you get is from their 2013 live album, and another 45 is from their 2015 comeback album. You won't hear the studio versions of the songs you expect to hear. Disappointing, really. Posted by Philip on Monday, 11/20/2017 @ 20:30pm |
Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits and The Moody Blues will add to the votes for The Zombies. Posted by Roy on Thursday, 12/14/2017 @ 19:19pm |
RIP, Jim Rodford who was Rod Argent's cousin and played bass in both Argent and the reunited Zombies as well as The Kinks. Posted by Aaron O'Donnell on Sunday, 01/21/2018 @ 00:36am |
Hands down the Zombies should be in the great hall of Rock and Roll. They still have that hunger that many of today's bands do not have. They continue to create albums of perfection. Also, they are still touring "odessey and Oracle" and making new fans at every concert. They have opened the door for many bands that have opened for them like Bruce Sudano, Edward Rogers, Et Bruce, Don DiLego and many more. Every concert is a party going on and that's a gift they share over and over again. Posted by CaroCool on Tuesday, 04/24/2018 @ 21:35pm |
The Zombies are a good reason for a Veteran's Committee RRHOF to remember a diamond band from the 60's. Social media definitely helps a band like The Zombies as they made some incredible songs. She's Not There, Time Of The Season etc. I bought The Zombies Greatest Hits type album 2 years ago and was stunned by the strong vocals and precision of the songs. Excellent crafted songs and musicianship. The Zombies recent nominations probably had younger music fans searching for their solid catalog of songs. They are still around and probably will be inducted in the next 5 years. Too much momentum. KING Posted by KING on Monday, 07/9/2018 @ 04:49am |

The 2018 inductees, The Moody Blues, Dire Straits, The Cars, Bon Jovi will all add to the votes for The Zombies! The Zombies are going in 2019!!! It's over. Their replacement on the ballot will be The Monkees hopefully, if not Herman's Hermits. Posted by Roy on Saturday, 10/13/2018 @ 14:29pm |

For what it's worth,Little Steven seems to be the one on the nominating committee most loudly focused on still getting in the older acts, and none of the acts you guys have mentioned were among his recent short list. Posted by Shrek on Wednesday, 12/12/2018 @ 13:08pm |
According to WLS dj Clark Weber, Herman's Hermits was no better than most garage bands. Posted by Zuzu on Wednesday, 12/12/2018 @ 13:16pm |

The recent inductions of the “holy trinity” of prog (Rush, Yes and The Moody Blues), plus the upcoming induction of The Zombies could lead to a re-nomination and possible induction of Procol Harum. Posted by Enigmaticus on Sunday, 03/24/2019 @ 05:38am |

I was listening to "Odessy & Oracle" again recently. It's one of the the most quintessentially 60s sounding albums ever made. Stunning album with no bad tracks. Posted by StunningStocktaker on Saturday, 01/29/2022 @ 15:10pm |
