53 comments so far (post your own)It's a shame that such a band not already in the Hall of Fame, in memory of Phil Lynott it may be time it happens..... Thx anyway... Posted by Eric on Tuesday, 02/26/2013 @ 10:40am |
Lizzy - the most influential rock band out of Ireland, and in the British Isles too to my mind! Great riffs, World-class guitarists and a leading drummer in Brian, plus the most charismatic front man whose equal we will never see; RIP Phil, let his band in and their memory live! Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous is one of the best live albums ever recorded. And thats not just my opinion. Posted by John Brooks on Thursday, 04/11/2013 @ 16:12pm |
They were superb. Wake up Rock & Hall of Fame - get this Band fully inducted sooner rather than later. Been listening to them for 35 years & still love 'em. Posted by TL on Thursday, 04/11/2013 @ 17:06pm |
One of the great hard rock bands, influenced a generation and more...'Still in love with you' is one of my favourites... a great song, especially live with those twin guitars, Robertson had such a great tone to his playing. They should be in but when did fame and popularity = class and talent! Posted by Scott on Thursday, 04/11/2013 @ 17:23pm |
I think Lizzy has had a hard time getting in because so much of their success has been worldwide instead of here in the states. They were damn good, ground-breaking, hard-playing, all-business, no-posing rockers that were many notches above your typical "heavy metal" bands. Phil was an exceptional songwriter. They belong in! Thin Lizzy was the leading hard rock act in the 70s. Fronted by the amazing Philip Lynott, they invented the double-lead, Brian Downey is a most exceptional drummer an the band has included premier guitarists like Brian Robertson, Gary Moore, Scott Gorham, Snowy White and more. Lynott was a huge vocal talent and one of the most underrated writers in the music business. A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame without Thin Lizzy as a member only serves to embarrass itself for the absurdly inconsistent popularity contest it is and nothing more. The Hall should do themselves a favor and induct Thin Lizzy immediately to at least give the impression that someone there knows something about rock music. If you were to talk to musicians, especially guitarists, you'd be hard-pressed to find many successful R&R players that weren't influenced heavily by the most important and talented band to ever hail from the emerald isle, Thin Lizzy. Thin Lizzy = Pure Rock coupled with Philo's Celtic magic and mystery. Met Philo once in the Ilac centre in Dublin with Gary Moore. Great craic and signed autographs for loads of fans that afternoon. Irish & World Rock Legends Posted by Agé on Monday, 06/3/2013 @ 06:29am |

It's not a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without Thin Lizzy. Posted by Bill Entz on Wednesday, 09/18/2013 @ 02:43am |
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke and doesn't deserve Thin Lizzy! Anyone who thinks Madonna is rock then knows nothing about rock! Posted by Raun Lynott on Saturday, 11/16/2013 @ 08:00am |
Thin Lizzy are one of the greatest bands ever. 12 studio albums of pure awesomeness. Fronted by the late great Phil Lynott who's charm and charisma had all the girls screaming for a little more Irish in them. Posted by Sam on Monday, 01/13/2014 @ 20:27pm |
i have heard 99% of Lizzy's catalogue and my favorite songs are 1.)vagabond of the western world. 2.)opium trail. 3.)bad reputation. 4.)with love. 5.) wild one Posted by al on Tuesday, 03/4/2014 @ 15:52pm |

Thin Lizzy are one of the greatest bands of all time, massively underrated and unappreciated by many. Posted by Tom Flynn on Monday, 03/31/2014 @ 12:53pm |
I have seen them in various incarnations 30 times since 1976, if you have not seen Phil, Brian, Scott and Robbo at full flow live on stage then you have never witnessed the best live band ever, I went back stage , pre gig in 77 and they were the nicest guys you wish to meet. There is absolutely no doubt why bands accredit their success to Phil and the boys!!!! Posted by Simon on Monday, 03/31/2014 @ 15:19pm |
Thin Lizzy is and always will be the greatest band there ever was. More bands today are influenced by Thin Lizzy then the Beatles. They were blatantly ripped off because they were so underrated that no one would ever know where "Your" awesome music came from..Unfortunately people's knowledge of Thin Lizzy doesn't expand further then Boys, Jail, and Whiskey and that's too bad. Cause there are imitators out there right now making it in music, that are being claimed as original artists, yet they've only stole from one band... THIN LIZZY. Long over due for a great band that influenced so many other bands.......Phil Lynott is one of the great musical talents of the World. Posted by Raun Lynott on Friday, 05/9/2014 @ 16:21pm |
prognosticator??? wtf? Rick Springfield?? that says it all you are a Classic Douchebag who dont know shit about music so go put you justin bieber shirt back on then as Phil Lynott would say "SUICIDE YEA BABY" E Posted by Brian Keith Campbell on Saturday, 05/10/2014 @ 03:05am |
It is understandable if not everyone necessarily rate Thin Lizzy as justified inductees. After all everyone has different tastes and variety is the spice of life. However, it would be a shame if that opinion is made from ignorance of their full playlist. I suggest before forming your opinion to please listen to "STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU" - an achingly beautiful ballad with one of rocks greatest guitar solo's by Gary Moore - with an open mind. Not raggin too heavy on TL, but "The Boys Are Back In Town" is one of the worst things I've ever heard. The guitar riffs are awesome, but lyrically, it is a horrible song. Posted by Philip on Wednesday, 06/3/2015 @ 23:18pm |
First saw Lizzy at the Birmingham Odeon, aged 12 on the Johnny the Fox tour, blew me away, stopped listening to Radio One daytime and started listening to John Peel and BRMB's Robin Valk. Totally changed my perspective, amazing band live, energetic, powerful stage presence. I've seen everyone from Queen to Motorhead, Tom Petty, Boomtown Rats and the Ramones and no one put on a show like Lizzy. Long underrated, Philo was a poet ably backed by Brian Downey's amazing drumming, (best drummer I've seen, sorry Roger, Ian Paice etc)and some superb guitarists Brian R, Scott Garry and Eric, so yes high time they went into the Hall. If it's based on musical excellence, they should already be in there!!!! Posted by Ryan Tunn on Thursday, 04/14/2016 @ 16:19pm |
Having seen Thin Lizzy a dozen times back in the day, they were the greatest live act around. Yes, some of their studio albums may be a bit flat (and I have them all), but watch and listen to the same song live and it becomes a different beast. Posted by Colin on Friday, 04/15/2016 @ 07:33am |

I don't think Thin Lizzy will ever be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. They weren't very good, nor were they very famous; I don't think most people know who they are, anyway. Posted by Luke Madigan on Monday, 05/8/2017 @ 13:50pm |
Although they did not make it that big in America, you cannot deny that they were one of the first bands to introduce the dueling lead guitars solos, had arguably a couple of the greatest guitarist ever known to rock,(Gary Moore and John Sykes), and Phil Lynott is definitely in the top 5 songwriter, poets ever known to Rock N Roll music. Posted by Doug on Thursday, 06/29/2017 @ 11:33am |
Thin Lizzy is totally under rated band. Look on YouTube for huge bands that have covered their music. Posted by Erny G on Thursday, 06/29/2017 @ 14:19pm |
Thin Lizzy has more great tunes than half the shit bands in the RRHoF. You are a complete tone deaf a-hole if you think differently. Posted by Ron H on Thursday, 06/29/2017 @ 17:45pm |
The hardest working and the most unluckiest band ever, the first true band to have twin lead guitars used harmonically, able to change progression and remain popular throughout their career, a obvious yes but will be constantly overlooked Posted by Steve M on Saturday, 07/1/2017 @ 14:31pm |

If Thin Lizzy can't get in the rock hall is a joke. Posted by More Than A Feeling on Saturday, 02/29/2020 @ 19:10pm |
The fact that Thin Lizzy is not in the hall and has only been nominated once in 25 YEARS! of eligible brings shame yo the entire concept of the rock hall. I am not even speaking as a massive Thin Lizzy fan here, i am speaking as someone who understands the role thing Thin Lizzy plays in rock history and that is of the quintessential rock band from the 70's. i'd actually argue that Thin Lizzy was to the 70's, what Guns N Roses was to the 80's. Your favorite band's favorite band is Thin Lizzy or were atleast inspired by them. If the rock hall wants to be taken seriously, they would invent a time machine and induct Thin Lizzy in '96 or '97. This is just disrespectful to the memory of Phil Lynott may he rest in peace. Posted by Mark on Friday, 02/19/2021 @ 00:17am |
In Lizzy, you have: a poet, a great live performance, variety of musical themes and lyrics, dueling guitars, harmonizing guitars, and an influencer of bands who would not be in the HOF, but for TL. Posted by John M on Wednesday, 05/12/2021 @ 14:18pm |
Now with the Hall inducting acts like Judas Priest, Kraftwerk & 'LL Cool J in the side categories just because they don't have enough votes & support from the committee, this will be a permanent pattern for the ones who kept on getting snubbed & are way past eligible for it & Thin Lizzy is among one of them since it's been over 50 years since their debut. Thin Lizzy was on my list but as one person said they have some flat albums. Personally I would rather have had Thin Lizzy in than The Cars. And more prattle here then for Nazareth which I have a current three way tie for second. Posted by zrocker on Saturday, 09/24/2022 @ 03:44am |
Does anyone know what members of Thin Lizzy were included in their 2020 nomination? Posted by Will m on Sunday, 03/17/2024 @ 22:57pm |
